Exclusive for paid subscribers: the Corinne Channel is a roundup of what I’ve been reading, watching, and listening to over the past week. This list will be included at the end of each Friday Bitch and Brag.

Yesterday was my birthday, and since I’m a believer in celebrating for the entire month of one’s birthday and while the Sun is transiting through one’s Sun sign, that means I celebrate from about January 21 through February 28/29. Let’s keep the party going while we circle up!

Bitch: At the beginning of the week, I found a great writing gig via LinkedIn, sent in my résumé using LinkedIn’s easy apply feature, which included a line item asking applicants to send a follow-up email with three relevant writing samples. I send the email and PDFs of writing samples…only to have the email bounce because “Message size exceeds fixed limit.” Um, what? Shouldn’t your limits be increased if you know you’re going to get inundated with file attachments?

Brag: I baked my own birthday cake, using the same King Arthur Flour Favorite Fudge Birthday Cake recipe I used to bake Pops’s 80th birthday cake. So, so good.

King Arthur Flour Favorite Fudge Birthday Cake. Damn good.

Bonus Birthday Item: I spent my birthday having a nice breakfast with Pops & Mari at a local diner I like, then took the Metro to the American Art Museum (part of the same building as the National Portrait Gallery) and had a fun afternoon looking at some fantastic pieces of artwork. Had a late lunch at The Smith nearby, then headed back home and crashed out.

Clockwise from top left: outside of Smithsonian American Art Museum; City Bird mocktail at The Smith; grilled chicken sandwich with fries at The Smith; selfie time.

If you feel like getting your favorite writer Corinne a little birthday something (other than a paid subscription), here are some wish list links.

Bitch: Turns out Ippie has an upper respiratory infection—poor kitty has been sleeping a lot, sneezing, and her left eye has been a bit weepy. Send her healing vibes, please.

Brag: I set up an account over at 750 Words and have been writing a few days in a row, which has been fun. If you’re looking for no-frills online writing, with cute badges and stats on what you wrote—is the tone angry, happy, fearful; did you write more about friends or work or love; what words did you use the most—this is a good site for that purpose. Not sure I will go paid once my 30-day trial is over ($5/month after the free trial), but it’s worth considering.

Paid subscriptions help me pay my bills and keep the cats fed. Now through February 20, get 40% off monthly and annual subscriptions! That’s under $5/month or $42 for a year.

Bitch: For three years, I’ve been in a group text with two close friends. We talk about anything & everything, and it’s helped us get much closer. For unknown reasons I cannot reply using Microsoft Phone Link, which is the app I use to connect my Samsung Galaxy S21 phone to my laptop (great for quickly typing responses to texts). I’ve checked the settings several times and updated the app, but it still won’t work. There’s another group text I’m in with two other friends, and I can respond to that thread using Phone Link. Today I researched the problem & found out this is a common issue with users who have the same phone as I do. Fix it, Microsoft!

Brag: At long last, I have finished a canister of Morton’s Iodized Salt. I may have purchased it when Obama was still in office, that’s how long this salt has been around. Thinking maybe I should have it bronzed to commemorate the occasion.

Empty canister of Morton’s Iodized Salt that may well have been 7 years old. I can’t remember. Don’t @ me.

This week on The Corinne Channel: rich white people problems, healing through movies and Hallmark Channel, fighting the algorithm, and more!
