In case you missed the inaugural edition of Friday Bitch & Brag, here’s the link with the back story.
Time to circle up, kids!
Bitch: Being short is exhausting. Either I am asking taller people to help me reach things or I am dragging around a stepstool or stepladder. Every year on my birthday, I wish to grow another 3 inches taller, or to learn how to levitate. To date, neither wish has been granted.
Brag: I’ve become increasingly aware of how much time I spend faffing about online, and since I have a lot I want to accomplish this year, I downloaded an app to help me reduce the mindless scrolling. StayFree (horrible name, did no one tell them about this product?) keeps track of device usage and allows users to turn on Focus Mode, either manually or by setting up multiple schedules, which blocks their access to the apps they specify. I have the Android app on my phone as well as the Chrome browser extension, and I’ve set up four Focus Mode schedules. After 2 weeks I’m getting better at reducing my time online.
Bitch: Plumbing issues. Sometimes I feel as if I’m a magnet for them. My toilet had persistent flushing issues & between me and my housemate (who owns the house) we couldn’t fully resolve them…
Brag: …but on Wednesday the plumber came and not only did he fix the toilet, he also solved another issue with the main line to the sewer that could have gotten much, much worse. He kinda looked like Jeremy Renner to me, but I didn’t have my glasses on and I have a habit of comparing people to celebrities, so it may not have been completely accurate.
Bitch: High waisted and extra high waisted jeans and pants. Why oh why does the fashion industry torture us with this look that only works on a select group of women? I am so ready for the trend to roll back to mid-rise. Or even low rise. (Good descriptions & definitions here.)
Brag: I am getting Hungry Harvest deliveries again. I found this company back in 2017, when I was living in Baltimore and they offered $7 bags of slightly imperfect produce at a nearby school every week. Right at the beginning of the pandemic, I signed up for Hungry Harvest’s delivery service and it was a fantastic, minimal contact way of getting fresh produce plus other grocery items (depending on what they had in stock) every other week. I had to pause deliveries for an extended period, but now I’m back. Want to see if Hungry Harvest delivers in your area? Take a look & use my referral code to sign up & get $10 off your first order!
