The votes are in and it’s time for some bitching and bragging. Let’s circle up!

Bitch: Tuesday was a loooong day, as I had to be at the polling place at 6 am for final setup and the day ended close to 9 pm. I worked in the school gym, which didn’t have A/C and the fans set up barely did anything to cool down the room. Between the warmth, metal folding chairs, and repeated movements of standing and sitting, my body was worn out when I got home.

Brag: I had some fun conversations with the people at the ballot issuance table where I was working, and that helped make the day go by fast. I took some lemon loaf to share and it was very popular with my fellow poll workers. Everyone was very upbeat, and it gave me a lot of joy to see quite a few first-time voters, who I applauded and congratulated for reaching this milestone.

Bonus Item: In my head I gauged whether a voter was registered Democrat or Republican before they walked up to the table to get their ballot, and 8 times out of 10, I was right. Closer to the end of the day it was all I could do not to say to a few voters “please don’t vote for Trump.”

Bitch: Have retailers and restaurants shifted back to cash only and I missed the memo? Several times over the last week I’ve had to walk away from purchases at the register, all because they wouldn’t accept debit/credit or their minimum card purchase was more than I could afford to spend. When this happens, it makes me feel like I’m being shamed for not carrying cash, and if I feel ashamed or wrong based on decisions made by a business owner or their staff, I’m not likely to visit your business again.

Brag: I found a local low-cost spay/neuter clinic for Max, thanks to the folks at Laurel Cats, and here’s hoping Pops & Mari can get him in there soon to get those ‘nads nabbed, as my Uncle Ned likes to joke.

Bitch: Finding work continues to be a challenge, and as someone who is very work-minded, I get very depressed when I feel like my work or experience isn’t valued. The last couple of weeks have been particularly rough and some days it’s very difficult to get motivated to search for jobs, much less apply for anything.

Brag: I may have a positive update in the next week or so about work. I know that’s pretty obscure, but I don’t want to say too much and then have to backtrack because things didn’t pan out.

This week on The Corinne Channel: essays on creativity, moody music, and more yachtie drama!
