Bitch: I wore black on Independence Day because I am in mourning for this country. SCOTUS is putting the mock in democracy and I am very concerned about the election.

Brag: HM and his BFF declared their independence from leaving the kitchen a mess after their cooking session yesterday, which I really appreciated.

Rooney Update

On Wednesday, Rooney had breathing issues: short, shallow breaths that I could hear. He was also lethargic, but was eating and drinking okay. I couldn’t get my vet on the phone after hours, and called my cousin Sasha, who’s worked with vets and nearly became one. She said the steroids he’d started back on Saturday may be the reason for the breathing issues. She advised I watch him and go to the emergency vet if needed.

As of Friday, Rooney’s breathing is still labored, but he is overall okay. I talked to the vet in the afternoon & he said to stop the steroids, and we’ll check in on Tuesday.

I’ve set up GoFundMe and PayPal campaigns to raise funds for Rooney’s care, and I appreciate any donations, shares on social media, and the like.

Bitch: Technology is irritating the crap out of me this week. Why are there two separate voicemail notifications on my phone, when I only want/need one for visual voicemail? Why are there more freakin’ ads than normal in all the games I play on my phone? And why do I have to be verified fifty bazillon times if I log in to a service I use all the time?

Brag: I had several good conversations with friends, family, and strangers this week, from a 2-hour call with my cousin Sasha to Saturday lunch with DJ Solid to a surprisingly deep chat with Michael the Lyft driver on Wednesday.

Bitch: Pops got COVID this week and Mari tested positive last night. It is exhausting trying to get two active seniors to listen to reason about much of anything, from staying at home to not feeling obligated to do anything but rest.

Brag: They are both on Paxlovid, and Mari’s doctor called in a prescription for her this morning without requiring an office visit due to her immunocompromised health. Both of them stopped fighting me about staying home and resting.
