It’s August and that means the summer is nearly over, even if the temperature disagrees. This childless cat lady is ready for cooler autumn days. Let’s circle up!
Bitch: Big Lots recently announced that it was closing several stores nationwide, and of course that includes the one closest to me. I loved that store for all sorts of items, especially their 4-pack of bath scrubbies and random Bob’s Red Mill baking products.
Brag: I had been craving chocolate chip bar cookies for about a week, but all the recipes I found online seemed way more complicated than I thought they should be. Instead I used my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe and spread the batter into a greased glass dish, baking for about 30-32 minutes at 325 degrees. The only way they could have been tastier was with vanilla ice cream.
Bonus Item: I had all the ingredients for a French 75, so I had one on Sunday night. Très délicieux!

Bitch: All the salad mix at Aldi looked awful this week—I thought I got a decent one, but nope, it’s still full of spinach and red leaf that is going bad…
Brag: …but I got some fabulous heirloom tomatoes at the farmers market that are making up for the salad mix fail. Fresh local tomatoes are high on my list of best things about the summer.
Rooney Update
Rooney’s arbitrarily assigned birthday was August 1—hard to believe it’s been 13 years with this goofy, lovable fuzzbutt. He got extra treats and lots of snuggles.
He hasn’t had a seizure since starting on phenobarbital, which is such a relief. As for the GI issues, he’s been on a new medication that seems to be helping a little. He’s puked a few times this week, so obviously his treatment plan needs some tweaking.
Later this month, Rooney will get follow-up bloodwork to determine the level of phenobarbital in his system so that the dosage can be adjusted. I anticipate the exam and bloodwork will cost around $400.
Donations of $13 in honor of Rooney’s birthday are welcomed, as are shares to your fellow animal lovers—and of course, childless cat ladies.
Bitch: My grandmother passed away on Sunday night, which wasn’t unexpected and yet still sad, as her health had deteriorated considerably in the last year due in large part to dementia. She was 92 and outlived her husband, three of her stepdaughters (one of them being Momcat), her son, and a grandson. She dealt with a lot of heartache & tragedy in her life, but she never wavered in her Christian faith. I am glad she is finally at peace.
Brag: My family and I are in the early stages of talking about a cousins reunion in the spring, in addition to a celebration of life/internment for our grandmother. We haven’t gotten together on a large scale in many years so I’m looking forward to this possibility.
This week on The Corinne Channel: moving performances and prose, superhero flicks, and more!
