Exclusive for paid subscribers: the Corinne Channel is a roundup of what I’ve been reading, watching, and listening to over the past week. This list will be included at the end of each Friday Bitch and Brag.

In case you missed an older Friday Bitch & Brag, you can check out the index here.

Still tired, but still here and on time this week. Let’s circle up, folks!

Bitch: For a few weeks I’d been wanting to give myself a manicure, and on Wednesday afternoon, I did, using Zoya Divincia shimmery red polish. But the Nap Bus offering a 3-hour tour stopped by before the topcoat had completely dried, and I woke up to massive smudges and blanket marks all over my nails. I was so pissed that I removed the polish later that night.

What happens when you fall asleep too soon after a home manicure

Brag: On Monday I baked my first-ever apple crumb cake and it was so damn good, it’s going to be in my regular rotation for fall baked goods. I used Bramley and Calville d’Hiver apples, and substituted plain 2% Greek yogurt for the sour cream. Last night, HM paired the last piece with Tillamook vanilla ice cream, which he said was incredibly good. I told him if we go get more apples, I’ll bake another one.

Apple crumb cake. Sooooo good.

Bonus Item: When I was at Pops’ house on Sunday, Mari and I sat out on the back deck briefly to check on Max, who hadn’t been eating much (I think he had an upper respiratory infection, based on what Mari told me), and visit with Boots. Max started eating while we were out there, and Boots was super friendly and extra playful, doing a somersault while we watched him. He definitely has a family somewhere.

Boots the cat looking damn cute.

Bitch: Yesterday I spent more than 20 minutes on hold with the MD Comptroller’s office to deal with a tax payment issue…

Brag: …but once someone came on the phone, their resolution for my issue was even better than I could have hoped for. She was very pleasant and explained everything clearly, too. Now if they can just do something about those wait times, and the Comptroller’s continued inability to go paperless.

Enjoying the Friday Bitch & Brag content, but a paid subscription isn’t for you? I hope you’ll consider a small, one-time donation in support of my writing. Thank you!

Bitch: This past week has been Pukeapalooza, with both cats taking turns at barfing. Sometimes Rooney stands at the top of the stairs and pukes, which makes it so fun to figure out exactly where it landed.

Brag: A pocket copy of the U.S. Constitution arrived in the mail from the ACLU—I kinda remember requesting it a long time ago. Now I can be that woman with a copy of the Constitution in her bag, along with antacid pills, hair ties, and a tube of lipstick, ready to take on the world.

My handy pocket version of the U.S. Constitution

And now for the weekly media wrap-up on The Corinne Channel: fictional tennis champs, nefarious couples, old ballads, and escaping oppressive communities!
