Exclusive for paid subscribers: the Corinne Channel is a roundup of what I’ve been reading, watching, and listening to over the past week. This list will be included at the end of each Friday Bitch and Brag.

In case you missed an older Friday Bitch & Brag, you can check out the index here.

It’s the most wonderful time of the week! Let’s gather ‘round!

Bitch: The misogynistic attorney general in the Lone Star state. Enough said.

Brag: This morning I had a video visit with my gynecologist. She’s a warm, funny woman who listens to my bitching concerns about the hellscape that is dealing with menopause and offers useful options for managing the symptoms that drive me batty. She’s going through menopause, too, and while she doesn’t divulge her issues, her compassion and empathy shines through.

Bonus Item: Mari and I took Max to the vet on Wednesday and he was exceptionally well behaved. Turned out he’d been in a fight with another cat and had some pretty deep bites on his chest. The vet cleaned up Max and gave him an antibiotic shot so that we don’t have to fuss with giving him meds. Mari is convinced that Boots was responsible for Max’s wounds and doesn’t want him to come around the house anymore.

Bitch: Earlier today I found out that a woman artist I’d met and spoken to a few times passed away last year. She was such a lovely, talented woman whose style was evocative of Russian impressionist painters.

Brag: This evening I baked the first batch of Christmas cookies—butterballs, a classic recipe my paternal grandmother used to make at the holidays. These cookies are known by many different names: Mexican wedding cakes, Russian tea cakes, snowball cookies. I like that Grandma’s name gets right to the point and tells you what to expect.

Bitch: The Google browser changed its UI (user interface), Samsung’s One UI updated on my smartphone, and Instagram seems to have changed its UI, too. All of them look ugly to me.

Brag: Pops and Mari gave me an early Christmas present of a plush, cozy bathrobe from LL Bean and it is so soft & lovely that I want to wear it all the time. Maybe 2024 will be my Big Lebowski year, where I wear my cozy robe, sip White Russians, and act totally chill about everything. The Corinne abides.

Left: The LL Bean robe I received for Christmas. Right: My inspiration for 2024, The Dude, from The Big Lebowski.

And now for the weekly media wrap-up on The Corinne Channel: a singer’s memoir, watching the detectives part 2, holiday tunes, and more!
