It’s May, which means the year is nearly at the halfway point. Yeesh! Circle up, kids!

Bitch: I finally figured out a good sleep routine that has helped me sleep much better at night—but there were two nights of insomnia this week despite my best efforts. I’m guessing the CBD tincture I take before bed plays more of a role than I originally thought.

Brag: For a while I’ve been wanting a turquoise bracelet to add to my crystal bracelets collection, but couldn’t find one that appealed to me aesthetically. (One bracelet had little skull-shaped beads, which I didn’t realize until after I brought it home, so I returned it.) This week, I rummaged through my beading/jewelry supply box and I found a couple strands of turquoise beads I’d taken from Momcat’s beading supplies ages ago. I already have stretchy elastic for bracelets, so this means I can make my own, whoo hoo!

Bonus Item: For the first time in years I saw a woodpecker! Observed it in flight, and instantly thought “oh, wow, a woodpecker,” then watched it land on a tree and make its way down to a knot where it proceeded to eat grubs.

Woodpecker at base of tree, eating grubs.

The Al Gore Ithm

Lately I’ve been talking back to my devices. Not the cursing that happens when a file gets accidentally deleted or there’s a glitch in an app or the operating system.

Bitch: For my LDL to drop by nearly 15 mg/dL over the course of less than six months says to me that Effexor played way more of a role in my cholesterol than anything else, since I decreased my dosage starting in late December and stopped taking it on February 7, and my diet and activity level stayed pretty much the same. It’s shit like this that makes me not want to take prescription medications for anything. On the brag side, though…

Brag: …my cholesterol went down, and my Vitamin D went up. I got some plantar fasciitis inserts & other brace thingies to help with the foot pain. I got some exercises to help with my shoulder pain, which the new doc says may be mild inflammation.

Trends in my Vitamin D level, cholesterol, and LDL.

Bitch: Excessive force being used to address campus protests, as well as disciplinary action against students who participate, frightens me to no end. What the students themselves have to say about what’s happening at their schools should concern all of us. (Current stats on what’s happening in Gaza are here.)

Brag: I love when my home state does right by underserved groups and this week, Maryland Governor Wes Moore signed a new law requiring luggage for foster youths. From the Washington Post: “The new Maryland law, which passed unanimously, requires the state’s Department of Human Services to maintain a supply of new luggage and develop procedures for how it is distributed. Similar laws giving luggage to foster youths were passed last year in Oregon and Texas.”

This week on The Corinne Channel: historical fiction about a legend in the cosmetics industry, yachties fun, early aughts music, and more!
